train tracks

Once, not

so long ago

(but still it seems

awhile), we

sat on reddish

metal rails,

watching acrobatic

We lived then,

how we lived,

like living would

never catch up with

us and I looked

at the tracks

converging in the distance

left and right

far beyond sight

knowing someday this

would become a metaphor

of us, converging

in the distance.

We promised if a

train passed we’d hop

it for wherever,

casting our shadows to wind,

embarking again on this

adventure we live.

Well we’ve left that spot

behind, but not the motion,

as our wheels click clack

down this made-for-us track.

Once, once more, if not

plural yet, we’ve converged

in that grand distance

and I do not think we

will ever stop jumping

trains to somewhere lands

with our somewhere plans.
